If you are curious – join us at this special Leadership Forum where you will meet Candice Custodio-Tan aka “DJ Kuttin Kandi,” a true artist and community leader. She will perform and share the story of how she successfully utilizes hip-hop and spoken word to educate, build solidarity, create awareness and initiate action toward achieving social justice in the world.
Who is DJ Kuttin Kandi? She is an award winning competition “turntableist” widely regarded as one of the most accomplished female DJ’s in the world. Performing on stage with many including Jay-Z, LL Cool J and MC Lyte, just to name a few. Over the course of her 10-year career her story has appeared in publications including Rolling Stone Magazine, Vibe, Source, and the New York Times. She has appeared in several documentaries and received a variety of awards including the 2007 “Social Change in Music Award” at the Black Lily Music and Film Festival, a non-profi t that celebrates women artists. She is a sought after motivational speaker that has shared her music and message nationally at universities such as NYU, Yale, Princeton, Harvard, UCSD and Stanford. Who is invited?
We will fill the house with middle and high school girls. There will a block of seating available for teachers, counselors, principals, youth leaders, and women interested in learning more about our program.
