A Conversation with Alyssa Jacey
The YWL 2008 “Leadership Forum” series feature women artists who are singer-songwriters, some with their own record labels, and each with a unique story of how they have succeeded in staying true to their own hearts as women in the entertainment business. Together we will share stories of triumph and listen to lessons learned from women who are living their dream, sharing their message, daring to be the person they know they are in their hearts, each while singing their powerful songs.
Alyssa Jacey joins YWL on May 17th to share her passion and perspective. Her performance career began following the path of a professional dancer and choreographer appearing at Super Bowl XXXVII and in several music videos. Singing and songwriting came by chance after a night of Karaoke with friends that encouraged her to sing to the world – and she is doing just that! Alyssa had no vocal or songwriting training, “just a couple of decades of writing poetry as my favorite hobby.” And she taught herself to play guitar. Now you can fi nd her performing at venues up and down Southern California from the Belly Up Tavern to the Roxy Theater in Hollywood.
Alyssa’s music is a fusion of folk, rock, pop and soul. She has been compared to Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, the female version of Jack Johnson and Sia Furler. Writing has been her passion since she learned to write the alphabet, “I write about what moves me. It could be falling in love, heartbreak, the loss of life or friendship, or even something as simple as nature.” Alyssa’s music is a fusion of folk, rock, pop and soul. She has been
